JPEGMAFIA apologises “for the negative energy” and “acting irresponsibly”

JPEGMAFIA has issued an apology for his behaviour in recent months. The rapper, whose real name is Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks, claimed that “acting irresponsibly” doesn’t align with who he is. Earlier this year, controversy arose when he shared a photo of himself with Kanye West, claiming the rapper was his “idol”. Hendricks produced three tracks on Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Vultures 1’ album trilogy, leading to questions about his alignment with West despite the latter’s public anti-Semitic remarks. He also made disparaging comments about fellow rapper Freddie Gibbs, asking why West chooses to work with people “getting their baby mamas fucked on camera” instead of him.

In a series of tweets, Hendricks continued to apologise for what he called “negative energy.” He admitted that he can act out when frustrated with a person or thing, despite being in the right, and said he is sorry for projecting that energy onto his fans. He went on to say that he has been refocusing and working nonstop on his album, and that he hopes his fans will love it. Although Hendricks apologised to his fans, he made it clear that he was not apologising to anyone else.

Hendricks had previously announced that he was working on three albums to be released in 2023. However, he only ended up releasing one, a full-length collaborative project with Danny Brown called ‘Scaring the Hoes: Vol 1’, followed by the four-track EP ‘Scaring the Hoes: DLC Pack’. This year, Hendricks announced that he was still finishing his next solo record, which was meant to surprise-drop on New Year’s Day.

In other news, JPEGMAFIA will perform at the Outbreak Festival this June, alongside Basement, Flatbush Zombies, Mannequin Pussy, Ceremony, Touché Amoré, and Movements, among others
