Police in Greater Manchester have announced that a man in his 20s from Salford has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a passer-by discovered a torso wrapped in plastic in Kersal Wetlands. The victim, who has not been identified, is believed to have been over the age of 40. DNA tests are currently being carried out in order to identify him.
The discovery was made on Thursday and forensic officers and police divers have since been working at the location. Chief Superintendent Tony Creely has said that the tests conducted so far showed the victim was “a man who could not have survived.” Creely went on to say that the police were committed to identifying the victim as quickly as possible so that they could provide support to his loved ones.
The investigation is ongoing and, whilst a man has been arrested, further details remain unclear. Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area of Kersal Wetlands between the 26th and 27th August, and who could aid the police investigation, has been urged to come forward.
