Billie Eilish shares new album teaser on ‘Close Friends’ Instagram story

Billie Eilish has ignited rumours of a possible album release by sharing a new teaser on her Instagram story after adding fans to her “Close Friends” list. Many of her fans were surprised to see the green circle around her story and then discovering they’d been added. The image Eilish shared is a single door half-open along with some mid-air droplets and fans think this could be a hint at new album cover art. After news of the ‘close friends’ list started circulating among fan communities, Eilish gained six million new Instagram followers in a single day.

Recently, billboards have appeared in major cities across the world featuring her blohsh symbol and lyric snippets such as “Did I cross the line?”, “I try to live in black and white” and “She’s the headlights I’m the deer.” The lyrics on the billboards also feature a shade of blue that is now the profile photo and backdrop of her social media accounts. Eilish’s team used a similar tactic to tease the release of her second full-length album, ‘Happier Than Ever.’

Eilish confirmed the album was “almost done,” in December of 2020 and revealed in February of 2021 that her forthcoming third album is mastered, signifying that it is complete. In an interview, she opened up about the changes she made in the creative process while working on her third album. Eilish also joined other artists such as Robert Smith, Nicki Minaj and Stevie Wonder to sign an open letter warning against the “predatory” use of artificial intelligence (AI) in music.

Billie Eilish has been tight-lipped about the release of her next album but fans speculate that her recent Instagram story tease and billboards featuring her lyrics hint at the release of her long-awaited third album. Fans are hoping for an announcement soon
