Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen have officially separated after being together for over 20 years and almost 14 years of marriage. The couple announced their decision of filing a joint divorce in 2023 in a statement on their identical Instagram posts. “We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.” the statement read.
The couple met in 2001 and got engaged after three years. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, in October 2007, and later got married in Paris in 2010. They welcomed two more children in 2010 and 2015.
Meanwhile, Rebel Wilson recently spoke up about her experience of being humiliated and laughed at on the set of The Brothers Grimsby while working with Sacha Baron Cohen on the 2016 comedy. “It’s one thing for someone who is fat to exploit their size for comedy, but it’s another for somebody else to humiliate you,” Wilson said in an interview with The Sunday Times.
According to Wilson’s claims in her book Rebel Rising, Baron Cohen pressured her into filming several inappropriate scenes, which the actor has denied. Baron Cohen’s representatives released a statement saying that “While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these demonstrably false claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby”.
A producer for the film spoke out on Wilson’s allegations and said that throughout the entire period, Wilson was treated with utmost respect and empowerment, and she contributed to making jokes about her character’s body type, which she had previously approved of. The unnamed producer also added that sacha did not want to humiliate his co-star and colleague and had never done it to a fellow actor in the 25 years of the duo working together
