Birmingham band Swim Deep are back with their latest single ‘First Song,’ taken from their upcoming album ‘There’s a Big Star Outside,’ set to be released on June 7th via Submarine Cat Records. Produced by Bill Ryder-Jones, the album features 10 tracks, including lead single ‘How Many Love Songs Have Died in Vegas?’ announced back in February.

Frontman Austin Williams shares that the creation of ‘First Song’ was partly inspired by Mogwai and an arpeggiated loop he had made. The track had a driving force to it, with lyrics centred around Williams’ childhood dream of living a suburban life with two parents, two cars, a cat, a ‘nuclear’ family, and how the reality was that what he had was enough.

Swim Deep is also scheduled to embark on a UK headline tour this June, including a show at London’s Village Underground on June 13th. The tour kicks off on June 4 at Deaf Institute in Manchester.

Back in 2022, Swim Deep released a five-track EP titled ‘Familiarise Yourself With Your Closest Exit.’ In a previous interview with NME prior to its release, Williams shared that the songs he was writing for what would become album four were born out of pure naivety and jamming with his friend, with the instruments in the room. Clearly, this approach is working for Swim Deep, and fans will be excited to discover the rest of the tracks on their upcoming album
