Former Manchester United player and football pundit, Gary Neville, has expressed his concerns about his upcoming DJ performance at Cumbria’s Kendal Calling Festival this summer. In an interview on his podcast, Football, Music and Me, Neville spoke about his experiences with music and touched on Manchester’s music scene. He is set to perform under his new alias, DJ G-Dog, on Sunday, August 4, accompanied by The Charlatan’s Tim Burgess.

Neville admitted on the podcast that he has never DJed before and hopes to “just press a play button” when he takes the stage. Despite being worried about what he actually has to do, Neville is looking forward to the experience and will be working with Burgess on a setlist prior to the performance.

Kendal Calling attracts more than 40,000 people each year and this year’s headliners include Paolo Nutini, The Streets, and Noel Gallagher, who Neville has previously interviewed. Neville explained that a couple of months before the festival, he and Burgess will get together to select what music they think will be appropriate for the late night crowd.

Manchester’s music scene is one of the “greatest strengths” of the city and has a “rich history,” according to Neville. The former footballer stated, “If you’re from Manchester, you can’t get away from the fact that the city has an incredible music scene”. Neville went on to speak about the influence Manchester’s music scene had on him during his career and how it has helped him to discover a new passion in the music industry.

Neville’s upcoming performance at Kendal Calling is sure to be an exciting transition in his career, and fans will be keeping an eye out to see how well he does in his new role as a DJ
