Militarie Gun, led by Ian Shelton, is a band that defies categorization. Their debut album, Life Under The Gun, showcases the band’s blend of hardcore aggression and massive hooks. The record features 12 tracks that delve into Shelton’s personal relationships with a self-aware and empathetic perspective.

The band recently visited Rough Trade NYC for a session of Shoplifting, where they roamed the racks in search of their music inspirations. Shelton picked Courtney Barnett’s Tell Me How You Really Feel, a record that he was obsessed with upon its release but never owned a copy. He also picked up The Chisel’s What a Fucking Nightmare, a record that he was asked to make a music video for but couldn’t due to touring.

Waylon’s picks included Shame’s Food for Worms, a record that the band listened to frequently while on tour and played shows with. He also chose The Replacements’ classic Pleased To Meet Me, an album that he always needed a copy of and looks forward to listening to on vinyl.

Will’s first pick was Green Day’s new album, Saviors, which he found interesting for its apparent influence from bands like Prince Daddy and the Hyena. He also picked up Mudhoney’s Superfuzz Bigmuff, a loud 90’s rock band with a 70’s sound.

Militarie Gun’s debut album Life Under The Gun is out now via Loma Vista. Their unique blend of hardcore and massive hooks makes for an unforgettable listening experience
