Taylor Swift has received praise from Laura Dern who has labelled her a “real deal” filmmaker following their collaboration on the music video for ‘Bejeweled’. Swift wrote and directed the music video, one of several directing credits Swift holds. Dern has said she would be willing to work with Swift on a feature length film adaptation in the future. This comes after Searchlight Pictures announced in 2022 that Swift would be directing her first film, which she also wrote, after signing a deal.
Swift’s concert movie ‘The Eras Tour’ broke records as it made the biggest ever opening weekend for a concert movie, making $126m globally which includes $78m from North American screenings. It has been praised by NME for its seamless performance and unforgettable moments. Swift is also preparing for the release of her 11th studio album ‘The Tortured Poet’s Department’, which is set to be released on April 19 following her acceptance of the Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘Midnights’ at the 2024 Grammys.
Swift previously acted as writer and director on music videos for ‘The Man’ and ‘All Too Well’ amongst others. Her interest in filmmaking prompted Searchlight Pictures to sign her to a deal to direct her first movie, which has yet to be announced. Swift hopes to begin directing her first feature film around late 2024 or early 2025, according to Puck news.
