Grimes reckons the use of AI in music “will probably shape all minds going forward for the rest of time”

Canadian singer Grimes has talked about the potential that artificial intelligence (AI) has for the future of music. She appeared on a new six-part docuseries called A Brief History Of The Future, where she discussed how technology has changed the music industry. Grimes said that making music was once only accessible to fewer people, but technological advancements have allowed for more people to create music from anywhere, especially from their bedrooms. While discussing AI, she said that it could shift music production even further, allowing anyone with the same tools to make professional-quality music. She believes this may cause the real talent to “rise to the top.”

Grimes has become an advocate for AI use in the music industry. She recently made over 200+ GrimesAI Records available for content creators to use on any platform, which earned her a reputation as one of the most prolific voices advocating for AI. Grimes also released software last year that mimics her voice so that people could use it in songs. She also lent her voice to a children’s plush toy called ‘Grok’ in December 2020.

Grimes is committed to AI’s potential and thinks that it could have a more profound impact in the future. She says that the universe is empty and quiet now, but it wants to be woken up and filled with beautiful things. She takes the potential impact of AI on music seriously and believes that the creativity over the next few decades will shape all minds going forward for the rest of time. She iterates that we have to use what we create with AI thoughtfully.

Grimes’s last musical release was in 2022, ‘Shinigami Eyes’. Her last album release was ‘Miss Anthropocene’ in 2020. Meanwhile, she recently took to social media to share a teaser clip of her working in a recording studio, leading to speculation that she may be working on new music.
