British rapper and producer Jevon dies

Renowned British rapper and producer Jevon has died, multiple sources have confirmed. The cause of death is currently unknown. Raised in West London before moving to Coventry in his teens, Jevon was best known for his production on XL Recordings’ ‘New Gen’ compilation in 2017, which brought together some of London’s most promising rap, R&B, and spoken word performers. He also worked extensively with Pa Salieu, the British-Gambian rapper, producing multiple tracks on his debut mixtape ‘Send Them to Coventry’ in 2020.

Jevon’s debut album ‘Fell In Love With Brazil’, released in 2021, blended bossa nova and samba influences with his signature sound. As he explained in a 2018 interview with NME, Jevon drew inspiration from his Brazilian heritage. “My Grandad was Brazilian and he passed away about three years ago now. In his will, he left me his record collection, and it was all Brazilian artists. I had what I thought was the EP, but when I heard the Brazilian sounds, I just started making some Brazilian stuff. I was like, ‘This needs to be the album’. It was a blessing.”

Following news of Jevon’s death, tributes have flooded in from across the music industry. Fellow British rapper Ghetts expressed his condolences on Twitter, while Luke Cheyne, a close friend of Jevon’s and a fellow musician, paid tribute to his talent and creativity. “This is too soon. Rest easy brother, praying you’re in peace and paradise,” he wrote.

Jevon’s music was marked by a unique blend of influences and an infectious energy, and he was widely regarded as one of the UK’s most promising talents. While his death is undoubtedly a huge loss to the music industry, his impact and legacy will be felt for years to come
