The death of George Gilbey, a former star of the television show Gogglebox, is being investigated by Essex Police. Gilbey, who appeared on the Channel 4 programme between 2013 and 2018 with his mother and stepfather, died on Wednesday after falling from a height while working at a manufacturing business in Campfield Road. The man arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter has been released under investigation while the investigation is ongoing.

Along with appearing on Gogglebox, Gilbey also participated in the 2014 series of Celebrity Big Brother. Meanwhile, former EastEnders actress Daniella Westbrook posted a picture of the pair on Instagram, writing: “I’m absolutely gutted.”

The investigation into Gilbey’s death is being carried out by Essex Police, together with the Health and Safety Executive who commented: “We are aware of the incident and working with Essex Police in their investigation.” At the manufacturing business where the incident occurred, a single bouquet of flowers can be seen beside the entrance gates.
