Defected Records has recently made available a limited edition vinyl release of Frankie Knuckles’ compilation album, ‘House Masters,’ that was originally released in 2015. The record is split into two volumes, each featuring some of Knuckles’ greatest hits and remixes, such as ‘Your Love’ and ‘The Whistle Song,’ and remixes for Chaka Khan and Sounds Of Blackness. ‘House Masters’’ vinyl version is being released for the first time following an initial digital and CD run, but it, too, became no longer available in either format due to licensing restrictions.
The release of this limited-edition vinyl transcends more than just music, as this year marks the 10th anniversary of the passing away of house music’s pioneer, Frankie Knuckles. For this reason, every penny of sales from the record will be donated to the Frankie Knuckles Foundation, which focuses on subjects such as music in schools, HIV/AIDS research, homelessness, and more. Frederick Dunson, Founder, President, and Executive Director of the Frankie Knuckles Foundation, shared his thoughts on the legacy of Frankie Knuckles and the significance of this commemorative vinyl release of ‘House Masters.’
In addition to the vinyl release, Defected Records will also publish a special edition of Faith Magazine in tribute to Knuckles that will include 40 pages documenting the maestro’s life and far-reaching influence. Fans of his music can go to Defected Records’ website to purchase the limited-edition ‘House Masters,’ which is expected to start shipping in May.
