In anticipation of its release next month, NME has exclusively published three movie posters for Back To Black, the first feature film to tell the story of the late musician Amy Winehouse. The movie follows Winehouse from her youth in North London to her rise as a Grammy-winning artist in the early 2000s. Marisa Abela, known for her work in the TV series Industry, portrays Winehouse in the lead role, with BAFTA-nominated actor Jack O’Connell playing her ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil and acclaimed actress Lesley Manville taking on the role of her grandmother Janis Levy. Eddie Marsan and Juliet Cowan have been cast as Winehouse’s parents, Mitch and Janis Winehouse.

The film, set to hit cinemas on April 12th, has been directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who also directed the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy and the Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation. Matt Greenhalgh, known for his work on Nowhere Boy, as well as the Ian Curtis biopic Control has written the screenplay. According to Taylor-Johnson, one of the goals for the film was to tell Winehouse’s story from her perspective and through her eyes, taking viewers on a journey through her music and creative process.

Last week, details about the official soundtrack for the movie were released, featuring songs by Winehouse and other iconic artists that inspired her, such as Billie Holiday and The Shangri-Las. Nick Cave collaborated with his longtime musical partner Warren Ellis on the film’s score, which includes an original song entitled “Song for Amy.” The soundtrack album, titled Back to Black: Songs from the Original Motion Picture, will be available on May 17th via UMR/Island Records
