Experimental rock band Mary In The Junkyard have released a new single titled ‘Marble Arch’ and announced their debut EP, ‘The Old House’. The three-piece band comprises of Clari Freeman-Taylor on guitar and vocals, Saya Barbaglia on bass and viola, and David Addison on drums. The EP, which features four tracks, including ‘Ghost,’ was produced by Richard Russell and is set for release via AMF Records on May 9. The band has described ‘Marble Arch’ as a song that conjures moments of grandeur from small beginnings, showcasing their ability to evoke raw emotion.
Freeman-Taylor revealed in a statement that she wrote the lyrics to ‘Marble Arch’ under the actual landmark, and that the track is about two sisters and the intense relationship between them, as well as the feeling of not wanting to return home after leaving. According to a press statement, the new EP expresses the memories that exist in past homes through ‘evocative snapshots.’
Additionally, Mary In The Junkyard announced their largest headline show to date, taking place at the ICA in London on October 3. Their previous dates include appearances at Dot to Dot in Nottingham, Canons Marsh Amphitheatre in Bristol, and Henham Park in Suffolk.
In an interview with NME, Freeman-Taylor discussed the band’s journey and how the trio had to create Mary In The Junkyard to avoid exploding, stating that they pursued projects they didn’t want to do in their previous band as they were young. Addison added that they have learned to play better live and are excited about their upcoming works, putting their past experiences behind them.
