ABBA announce 50th anniversary reissue of ‘Waterloo’

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of their international breakthrough on the Eurovision stage, ABBA has announced the reissue of their iconic album, “Waterloo”. Released on April 5 by Polar Music International, the anniversary edition is a half-speed mastered 45RPM 2LP Vinyl, along with a limited edition box set of the three vinyl singles originally released in 1974. Fans can also pre-order available picture disks and anniversary apparel.

ABBA’s historic breakthrough at Eurovision in April 6, 1974 at Brighton’s The Dome, paved the way for members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid “Frida” Lyngstad to change the world of pop music forever. Their second album, “Waterloo”, features now-iconic tracks such as “Honey, Honey”, “Dance (While The Music Still Goes On)”, and “Hasta Mañana”, a ballad that was nearly chosen as the Eurovision entry instead of the title track.

The vinyl reissue is accompanied by the opportunity for fans to dance along to ABBA’s memorable hits at a silent disco hosted against the backdrop of London’s skyline. Taking place on April 4 for one night only, fans can climb the landmark building O2 to celebrate the monumental milestone.

Last April ABBA celebrated their one-millionth visitor to their hit Voyage show and in an interview with NME, Björn Ulvaeus spoke about the future of virtual shows. He hinted that the show, held at London’s ABBA Arena, may tour several locations around the world including Asia and North America.

The BBC will be broadcasting a series of special programmes to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s Eurovision victory, including When ABBA Came To Britain and More ABBA At The BBC
