The upcoming expansion for Final Fantasy 14, titled Dawntrail, has an official release date following director Naoki Yoshida’s confirmation that the game would not be given a date until Square Enix was sure that it would be on track and secure. The expansion will begin early access on June 28, 2024, and will be available to the public on July 2, one week after the expected launch of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Yoshida explained the decision to launch the game a week after Elden Ring’s launch, citing his desire to let players settle in with that game before moving onto Dawntrail.
Despite Yoshida previously promising that the game would arrive sometime during the summer, he had hoped to launch the expansion a week earlier. However, with Elden Ring’s highly anticipated Shadow Of The Edree dropping on June 21, Yoshida believed that gamers would want to familiarize themselves with the new content first. This is why he opted to kick off Dawntrail one week later.
The expansion will introduce two new classes to the game’s world while opening up areas of the western regions of Tural. Pre-orders for Dawntrail will allow players to access a host of benefits, including early access and a wind-up figure of Final Fantasy 9 character Zidane, while the digital collector’s edition will have three bonus items: an ark mount, a wind-up Garnet minion, and a chocobo brush. A physical collector’s edition can also be purchased for £170 ($214) but excludes an actual copy of the game, instead including a Viper figure, an adventurer’s cloth map, an unending journey ruled notebook, and a pencil case.
Lastly, CEO Swen Vinke of Larian Studios announced cancelation for both the expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3 and its sequel. The company had been working on these two projects simultaneously before ultimately choosing to abandon them
