‘The 0%ers’ have achieved a momentous feat, finally conquering all player-made levels in Super Mario Maker, after thousands of attempts. The game, released on the Wii U in 2015, enabled fans to upload levels to an online hub for others to complete – but without the help of mods. Following on from a sequel in 2019, Nintendo has now said it will be winding down support for the games and will close the online hub on April 8, 2024.

The group was spurred on by that deadline, with hundreds of players taking on the challenge in an effort to finish all 26,000 levels before the shutdown date. At the start of March 2024, they had only 347 levels to go, and on March 22, the team was able to celebrate after beating the last level.

One of the final levels, the Trimming the Herbs stage, proved to be un-winnable, despite thousands of attempts, as it relied on 18 frame-perfect jumps. The creator of this level conceded that it was impossible to complete, and consequently, The Last Dance level became the final challenge for The 0%ers to beat.

Despite the efforts of the creators, who admitted that their intention was to cause a “ruckus”, the team still managed to complete all the levels. Once the servers for Super Mario Maker are taken offline, it will still be possible to play levels that have previously been downloaded, but players will be unable to access new ones.
