Slipknot’s Clown has taken to Instagram to share a photo of a gruesome new mask, which fans believe has never appeared on stage before. Shawn Crahan, who is the percussionist and founding member of the band, posted the picture of the fleshy and gory mask on his account and captioned it with, “I swore I wouldn’t let this happen.” Some of Slipknot’s hardcore fans believe the mask has only been seen before in the Knotfest Museum, but it closely resembles one worn by Crahan during a tour in 1999.
Earlier this month, the band’s original frontman, Anders Colsefni, revealed that a new rerecording of the 1996 demo tape, ‘Mate. Feed. Kill, Repeat.’, was uploaded to YouTube without his consent. Colsefni said that he now intends to cancel an upcoming tour, where he was due to perform the revised version of the record, in order to focus on the re-recording. He said, “I hope you will trust me to do this properly and make you and the die-hard, old school Slipknot fans proud. Then, we will look to put this tour together again, beginning where it began, and spreading as far as you want it to.” The new recording is reportedly dedicated to the late Slipknot members, Joey Jordison and Paul Gray. Founding bassist Gray died aged 38 in 2010, while founding drummer Jordison passed away aged 46 in 2021.
As for Slipknot, following the sudden departure of Jay Weinberg, the band is expected to reveal the identity of their new drummer and provide details of their long-lost experimental album, ‘Look Outside Your Window’. Fans have been speculating about the album since August 2020 when Corey Taylor was asked when they can expect the project. Clown later confirmed to NME in December that the album is definitely arriving next year, adding, “The art’s been done. It’s been mixed. It’s been mastered. It is definitely coming out in 2024, and it’s such a great album.
