The Princess of Wales has revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer in a video statement released by Kensington Palace. Catherine stated that she is in the early stages of treatment, adding that it had been a “huge shock” after a difficult few months. Though details of the type of cancer have not been disclosed, the Palace has confirmed it is confident the Princess will make a full recovery.
Catherine explained that cancer had not been detected when she underwent abdominal surgery in January, though tests conducted following the surgery revealed that it had been present. “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” she added.
It has been confirmed that the treatment began in late February. Kensington Palace has said it will not be sharing further private medical information and the Princess has called for privacy, explaining that it is important for the couple’s three children.
The King and Queen were informed of the Princess’s health prior to the news being made public. King Charles himself has recently been undergoing treatment for cancer and Princess Catherine had also been undergoing treatment at the same London clinic where the King was treated. Following treatment, the King has remained “in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks.”
There has been a series of media reports and conspiracy theories surrounding the Princess’s health and recent activity. The Palace has stated that the couple is entitled to privacy and that details of the Princess’s health should not be subject to media scrutiny
