Rock band Pearl Jam has released “Running,” the second single from its upcoming album, “Dark Matter.” The energetic track features a thumping drum beat, a catchy guitar riff, and a bass-heavy backbone. At the song’s halfway point, an electric guitar solo takes over while frontman Eddie Vedder sings, “Living in the shadows, crossing my fingers / A date with the gallows and a reprieve not looking likely.”

In a recent interview with Spin, Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard revealed that bassist Jeff Ament was responsible for the song’s riffs. “Jeff had the main parts for that one, and we worked it over as a band,” Gossard said. “I love the bridge. I don’t know what the hell those chords are that [guitarist] Mike [McCready]’s playing, but it sounds original.”

“Running” is one of the final tracks produced by Andrew Watt for “Dark Matter.” Gossard confessed that the band enjoyed creating an uptempo song to showcase Vedder’s “vocal dexterity here and on a few other spots on the album is just stunning”. The album is set for release on April 19 via Monkeywrench Records and can be pre-ordered or pre-saved here.

To celebrate the launch of the album, Pearl Jam has developed various limited-edition galactic color variants of the album, which will be accessible exclusively at select indie retail stores in eight different colorways in the US and two additional variants internationally. The band has also booked a one-night-only event called “Dark Matter – Global Theatrical Experience,” which will take place on April 16. It will be held in over 225 locations nationwide, along with over having 300 locations worldwide across more than 30 countries, for details on how to purchase tickets for the screening, please visit here.

Pearl Jam is also set to embark on a significant world tour starting in May. It will begin on May 4 in Vancouver, Canada, with several stops along the way in major cities such as Los Angeles, London, New York, and Sydney, with the last performance planned for November 21.
