DJ Alfredo, also known as Alfredo Fiorito, has been the recipient of a fundraiser launched to support his medical care. The 71-year old DJ requires private healthcare assistance after suffering from a stroke in 2021. Currently residing in a retirement home, he receives medical treatment and assistance. However, the cost of private healthcare is ongoing, and the Secret DJ has launched the fundraiser to support the legendary DJ and his son, Jaime Fiorito. The funds raised will be utilized towards retirement home costs and medical care, primarily for Alfredo.
Alfredo was an emigrant from Argentina who arrived in Ibiza in 1976. He played a key role in popularizing electronic dance music on the island and was an inspiration for well-known DJs like Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold, and Nicky Holloway. Particularly, Nicky was impacted by his sound after attending his Amnesia set in 1987, taking the ambiance of Ibiza’s club scene back to the UK. His club nights, such as Shoom, and IBizan vibe, was said to inspire the Balearic beat movement.
The Secret DJ launched the fundraiser earlier this month with a target of £30,000 for the cause. The fundraiser is currently £4,000 short of that target. The annual cost of healthcare is estimated to be £12,000, and any additional funds raised will be used for Alfredo’s ongoing care. The support will also be used to ensure Alfredo is comfortable and enjoys fresh air outside of his retirement home.
In February 2021, Alfredo launched a separate fundraiser to support his living costs, such as rent and bills, when he was without any work or income for a year following a stroke. During the pandemic, his situation got worse, and he could no longer support his family financially. The fundraiser, which collected more than €30,000, speaks of Alfredo’s popularity with people, and supporters anticipate they will reach the target for the new appeal very soon. Anyone can donate to the cause on Alfredo’s GoFundMe page.
