Mixcloud unveils new “Host Tagging” feature, allowing mixes to be published by multiple profiles

Mixcloud has announced a new feature named Host Tagging that allows curator profiles to credit guest DJs and hosts when publishing new shows or mixes, enabling them to easily publish across multiple profiles and benefit from the combined networks. The aim is to improve community and discovery. Both parties need to accept an invitation to join a profile “community” before the tagging can commence. The feature allows tagged hosts with pro subscriptions to have access to new statistics such as comments, favorites, chart positions and reposts, enabling them to quantify the combined reach of their shared network. Likewise, curators gain a new Host Tab which showcases their roster of tagged hosts through automated playlists.

Mixcloud Co-founder and CTO Mat Clayton said that tens of thousands of radio communities have made Mixcloud their home over the years, and with the new feature, the company wants to make it easier for stations and curators to connect with the DJs who make what they do possible, and get much more out of Mixcloud. When a new show is published, a notification is sent out to the followers of both the curator profile and the tagged show host. Host Tagging aims to allow curators and DJs to credit hosts, share networks and automate playlisting, therefore improving the overall experience for both the curators and listeners.

The feature is currently available to Mixcloud Pro subscribers. Host Tagging was created with the input of various music communities in mind, such as radio stations, nightclubs, festivals, labels and magazines, enabling each to benefit from the combined networks of the other parties. With this innovative mix-sharing feature, Mixcloud looks set to continue and expand on its mandate to provide a platform for audio creators to showcase and share their sound with the world.

It is part of a push to enable curators and hosts to connect on deeper levels with their audiences by networking across multiple profiles in a sharing economy. Host Tagging enables mix-sharing across previously fragmented networks and can benefit hosts on Mixcloud by allowing them access to new statistics and other tools to analyze their content. Host Tagging will help build stronger communities of audio creators on Mixcloud and could pave the way for similar sharing platforms in the future
