Vampire Weekend has left fans delighted with their offshoot project in which the remaining founding members Chris Tomson, Chris Baio, and Ezra Koenig participated. In a recent interview with New York Times, the band acknowledged having created the side project and said they recorded “hundreds of hours of music” over weekly jams during the summer of 2020. Tomson explained that the band had no agenda and no expectation, and just played with each other as friends.
Baio said the feeling was like being at the outset of the band again, and this continued for about three years whenever they were all in town. Notably, the band was always completely alone during these recent sessions as there was no engineer or tour manager with them. Koenig, in addition to revealing the project’s imaginary backstory and admitting that they were “still hashing out” the sound, responded to fans’ questions about whether the new project would open for Vampire Weekend.
The band has been teasing fans with releases of various singles such as ‘Capricorn’, ‘Gen X Cops’, and ‘Classical’. The newest album ‘Only God Was Above Us’ will be released by Vampire Weekend soon, and fans are already excited to hear the band’s latest “10-track magnum opus.” Furthermore, the band has started a new podcast called ‘Vampire Campfire’.
Finally, Vampire Weekend is going on a massive tour in the US to support their new album, scheduled to kick off in April. The tour will begin with the Moody Amphitheater in Austin, Texas, with Chris Tomson stating that the feeling was exceptional as there was a solar eclipse that day. The tour will proceed to other states and regions in the US, including Michigan, Chicago, New York, and Washington DC
