Yungblud recently spoke to NME about his forthcoming album, which he’s described as being “positive” and inspired by the likes of Oasis, The Verve, Primal Scream, David Bowie, and Madonna. The album, which Dominic Harrison has been working on for the past two years, is a full concept album that is intended to be played from start to finish. The album will be a change of pace for Harrison, who has traditionally sung about darkness, whereas this album is all about positivity.
Harrison, who spoke to NME to launch his festival BludFest, stated that he’s “going into new music, which I can’t wait for you to hear”. The album has been made in the North of England and flips the narrative for Harrison who has always sung about darkness. Harrison has taken a break to focus on new music lately, and he feels that the next album is something he’s been working on for two years and it’s a fucking adventure. It’s a change from his previous music and will be something to look forward to both for his fans and for all music lovers interested in a good experience.
The album will be a mix of different musical influences, with Yungblud naming Stone Roses and Amy Winehouse as influences, along with everything that has fundamentally done work on his soul. He’s looking to take listeners on an adventure like The Who’s Quadrophenia, Queen’s A Night At The Opera, or My Chemical Romance’s Black Parade. The album can hypothetically be listened to 50 years ago or 50 years from now and Harrison likes that about the album, “fucking everything else, it just is.”
BludFest will be held in Milton Keynes this August with a headline set from Yungblud. The line-up will also feature recent collaborator Lil Yachty, as well as Soft Play, Nessa Barrett, The Damned, Lola Young, Jazmin Bean, among others. Harrison has teased that fans might be able to get a taster of the album at the festival, as he plans to drop a mixtape of songs that he’s written and loves that might not make any sense but he thinks are excellent. Tickets for BludFest will go on sale at 10 am this Friday
