After more than two years since Daniel Craig’s final Bond film premiered, it has been announced that the actor to take over as 007 may have finally been chosen. According to sources cited within The Sun earlier today, British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who is 33 years old, has been offered the coveted role. The production company behind the Bond franchise, Eon, reportedly expects the actor to sign his contract “in the coming days”.
If Taylor-Johnson does accept the offer, his first assignment as James Bond is expected to begin filming this year. Initially, the production was delayed by Hollywood strikes that caused shooting schedules to be disrupted in 2023. One source cited by The Sun said, “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it. The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back”. As of now, Eon has yet to issue an official statement regarding this speculation.
Although Taylor-Johnson is already known within Hollywood and has appeared in several blockbuster franchises, such as Marvel movies, he is not as well-known as actors previously rumored to be up for the part. These included Idris Elba and Henry Cavill. Nevertheless, Aaron Taylor-Johnson does have an impressive roster of other work to his credit, including “Nowhere Boy” and “Kick-Ass”, in which he played the titular role.
Born in 1990 in High Wycombe, however, Taylor-Johnson began his on-screen career as a child actor in popular television shows such as “The Bill” and “Feather Boy”. 2010’s “Kick-Ass” would serve as his break-out role. In August of this year, his third Sony-backed Marvel movie will be released in which he portrays Kraven, aka Sergei Kravinoff: a fully developed version of his comic counterpart.
He has a strong resume with more than 50 screen credits to his name over a 23-year career, notable examples of which include last year’s “Bullet Train” with Brad Pitt, Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet”, a music video for R.E.M. track “Überlin”, and, most recently, Robert Eggers’ eagerly anticipated “Nosferatu”. Whether Taylor-Johnson will carry on the legacy of James Bond left by his predecessor, Daniel Craig, is yet to be seen
