Bon Jovi’s Jon Bon Jovi has talked about his past struggles with “dark misery” before creating the band’s new album, ‘Forever’. Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, he explained that the new album tries to convey the overarching sentiment of joy, although it was inspired during some tough years without joy. As much as the last album ‘2020’ focused on observations and narratives about the world, Bon Jovi now had to work through a lot of darkness until arriving at joy.
In 2020, Bon Jovi planned to tour his latest record, but he couldn’t do so. He shifted his attention to the band’s 40th anniversary, but soon realized that he was having trouble with his vocal cords. He needed to seek out a specialist who would perform a surgery on his vocal cords, which is not often done. Despite that, the band decided to mark the 40th anniversary, so they hired Gotham Chopra, Deepak Chopra’s son, to direct a docuseries named Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.
Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story is a four-part docuseries that will detail the singer’s turbulent decade and explore the band’s 40th anniversary. It will take viewers on a journey that will explain why they are what they are, including “all of the truths, all of the warts, all of the punches in the nose that got us to this place.” The frontman expressed pride and joy about what they accomplished in those 40 years, although the journey was challenging.
‘Forever’ is Bon Jovi’s first album in four years and their first to be released following the singer’s vocal cord surgery. The upcoming record is all about joy, a return to the joy which defined the band in its early days. Jon Bon Jovi urged fans to turn up the volume and feel good while listening to it. The album is set to be released on June 7th through EMI. You can pre-save/pre-order it online. Recently, the musician also expressed uncertainty about whether he will tour again after undergoing surgery on his vocal cords in 2022
