In a newly unearthed interview, Banksy has confirmed that he is the creator of a tree mural that appeared in North London on Sunday. The artwork depicts a tree with foliage, created using a cutback tree in the foreground and a green spray-painted wall behind. The mural was discovered on Hornsey Road in Finsbury, and was shared on Banksy’s official Instagram account on Monday.

The enigmatic street artist has long been known for his anonymous public displays, often political in nature. Banksy’s works have been the subject of much speculation, and his true identity has remained a mystery. However, in the aforementioned interview, he confirmed his previously rumored name to be “Robin Banks.”

The Finsbury Park tree mural is the latest in a string of public artworks that have been attributed to Banksy in recent years. In 2018, he created a mural in New York’s Bowery neighbourhood that commented on the city’s homelessness crisis. His ‘One Nation Under CCTV’ mural near London’s Liverpool Street Station has become a well-known landmark, drawing visitors from around the world.

The street artist’s work has been known to garner high prices when sold at auction, with his ‘Devolved Parliament’ piece fetching a record-breaking £9.9 million in 2019.
