Kacey Musgraves recalls nearly falling off a cliff while filming new music video

During an appearance on “The Tonight Show,” singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves revealed that she had a near-death experience while shooting her “Deeper Well” music video in Iceland. As she tells it, “It was high wind advisories — I almost got blown off that cliff. I was almost like, ‘This video will be my death announcement.'” The film was a month ago and showcases the breathtaking Icelandic scenery, including some of the country’s cliffs and sheer drop-offs. Even the locals advised against filming in the location, saying, “This is some scary sh*t.”

Despite the dangers, the acclaimed country singer said that the film was worth it. The trip to Iceland to shoot the video coincided with a transition period in Musgraves’ personal life. As she put it in a quote from February that seems to align with the song’s lyrics, “Sometimes you reach a crossroads. Winds change direction. What you once felt drawn to doesn’t hold the same allure. You get blown off course but eventually find your footing and forage for new inspiration, new insight and deeper love somewhere else.”

A video shot during the creation of the music video features Musgrave’s comments and a look at the stunning Icelandic scenery. Released on March 15th, “Deeper Well” is Musgrave’s sixth album. The record tackles new themes and received mixed reviews, with a three-star write-up from Sophie Williams of NME.

Musgrave is planning a world tour for 2024, with a lineup that includes Father John Misty, Nickel Creek, Lord Huron, and Madi Diaz. The shows will initially be in the UK and Europe before taking Musgrave to the US. The tour will commence on Sunday, April 28th at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre.
