Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival will be taking place from June 14 to 23, and the first performers have been announced. Khan, who is curating this year’s edition, will be showcasing some of the best artists of our time. Speakers Corner Quartet, Lady Blackbird, Morcheeba, Mica Paris, and Incognito have been announced as performers.
Khan will be performing two sets, one on the opening night, where she will be playing her greatest hits at the Royal Festival Hall, and the second closing out the festival performing her 2004 album ‘ClassiKhan.’ She will be joined by the Black-led Nu Civilisation Orchestra for this performance.
This year’s edition will be celebrating Khan’s 50-year career, with her being the 29th artist to receive the honor of curating the festival. Past curators have included David Bowie, Robert Smith, Jarvis Cocker, Lou Reed, Jeff Beck, among others.
In a statement, Khan said: “It’s an honor to share with you some of the brilliant artists that will be celebrating the diversity and legacy of Meltdown! We are all family. Get ready to sing, dance, and feel the love!” The festival will be a feast for all senses. “Join us and immerse yourself in a world that’s vibrant, diverse, and absolutely unforgettable,” says Khan
