Selena Gomez has spoken publicly about her struggles with mental health and hitting “rock bottom”. During a panel at SXSW, Gomez talked about her six-year documentary, My Mind & Me, which follows her experiences with anxiety, depression, and her bipolar diagnosis in 2020. She says she went “back and forth” about whether to release the documentary to the public, but she ultimately decided to do so, calling it one of the hardest moments of her life. Gomez said the film was important because it meant she didn’t have to hide anymore.

The singer added that she feels like she is in a better place now, although she admits it makes her “sick” to watch the documentary and see how self-deprecating she once was. She said it’s important to talk to yourself with kindness, something she didn’t truly understand at the beginning of filming. “All the things I was bitching about then, I’m grateful for now,” she said.

Gomez is not the only celebrity speaking out about mental health. High-profile figures like Prince William and Meghan Markle have shared their own experiences, which has helped break down the stigma surrounding mental illness. It’s important to recognize that mental health issues affect millions of people worldwide, and it’s essential to get help if you’re struggling
