Smokey Robinson confirms that he’s in talks for Glastonbury 2024

Motown icon Smokey Robinson has confirmed that he is in talks to perform at this year’s edition of Glastonbury Festival. The 84-year-old musician’s career spans over 70 years, and he hinted that he would be performing in the UK “soon” when asked at Elton John’s Oscars party in Los Angeles on Sunday. Speaking to Bizarre’s Howell Davies, Robinson shared that he would “absolutely” love to take to the stage at the Worthy Farm festival in Somerset. Robinson’s potential appearance at the festival is still to be confirmed, with no official line-up announced as of yet.

SZA is the latest artist to join the growing list of musicians speculated to perform at Glastonbury 2024. After being announced as one of the headline acts for the BST Hyde Park series, rumours suggest that the ‘Snooze’ singer will also play a set at the legendary festival in Somerset. Other rumoured headliners for Glastonbury include Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Stevie Wonder, with Shania Twain tipped for the legends slot. Organiser Emily Eavis recently shared that the festival’s line-up would be revealed sometime this week, and hinted at forthcoming female headliners and Sunday legends slots.

Eavis spoke about the difficulty in including more female artists in the festival bill, but explained that the festival is actively working towards creating more headliners and opportunities for female musicians. “We’re also creating them,” she said. “We’re putting the bands and female artists on smaller stages and bringing them through all the time so I feel like the pool is going to be bigger soon.” She also revealed that a female headliner pulled out of last year’s festival, but this year, there will be two female headliners and a female in the Sunday legend’s slot.

Glastonbury Festival is set to take place from Wednesday 26 June through Sunday 30 June 2024. With talks of Smokey Robinson and a host of other big names potentially performing, fans are eagerly awaiting the official line-up announcement
