Neil Young announces return to Spotify after Apple and Amazon pick up Joe Rogan’s controversial podcast

Neil Young has made his return to Spotify, after previously removing his music from the streaming platform in 2022. The announcement comes after episodes of Joe Rogan’s podcast, which Young claimed spread misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines, were exclusively available on Spotify. However, Young has expressed his dissatisfaction with Spotify’s sound quality, stating, “Why would I keep it on there when it sounds like a pixelated movie?”

Young’s return to Spotify is due to the podcast’s explicit exclusivity deal with the streaming giant ending and becoming available on Apple and Amazon. Young stated on his website: “Spotify, the #1 streaming of low res music in the world – Spotify where you get less quality than we made, will now be home of my music again.” He went on to say that he cannot remove his music from other streaming services, such as Apple and Amazon, because it would limit the accessibility of his music.

Young also expressed his hope in Spotify improving their sound quality to a high-resolution format. He encouraged the platform to become the leader in music streaming by providing the best quality audio to their users.

Young’s music has yet to be uploaded onto Spotify as of now, but it should be expected soon. In February, Young and his band Crazy Horse announced their upcoming album, ‘FU##IN’ UP’, which will contain songs recorded from their 50-year career. The album will be initially released on Record Store Day (April 20) and will be available in all formats on April 26
