Yesterday, the acclaimed filmmaker Wes Anderson won an Oscar for his latest project, a short film titled The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar. The prize was awarded in the category of Best Live Action Short Film. However, Anderson was notably absent from the ceremony when it was time to accept the award.

The 96th Academy Awards took place last night in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The ceremony was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and saw Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer win seven awards. It was only one of the victorious movies of the night, as Anderson’s work was also among them.

The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar tells the tale of a man with an intriguing ability to see through objects, help him predict the future and thus build his fortune through gambling. The short film stars a wealth of acclaimed actors including Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, and Ben Kingsley.

Anderson was unable to attend the ceremony in person but did release an official statement on Netflix’s account. According to this statement, Anderson was shooting his new movie in Germany. Within the statement, he thanked the family of Roald Dahl (the author whose short story inspired the film), the team at Netflix, and the many stars who contributed to the project. Among them, Anderson explicitly mentioned actor Owen Wilson, who he knew since they were both 18 years old.

This adaptation of Roald Dahl’s story from his 1977 anthology is a 39-minute movie with Ralph Fiennes playing the iconic children’s author. In a review the day before the ceremony, NME gave the film four stars, praising its storytelling and set design.

In other news from the Oscars, actor Ryan Gosling gave a live performance of the hit song from the upcoming movie Barbie, titled ‘I’m Just Ken.
