Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas won their second Academy Award for Best Original Song for their contribution to the soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Following their victory, the singer admitted to having a nightmare about winning another Oscar. She thanked the Academy for the honour and expressed her gratitude to Gerwig for her work on the movie, saying that it made her feel fantastic. Finneas thanked their team, parents, and close friends and girlfriend.

While the victory for Best Original Song was Barbie’s first award of the night, Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken” was also nominated in the same category. At the ceremony, Gosling gave the first live performance of the song, with Mark Ronson and Guns N’ Roses’ Slash joining him on stage.

Jimmy Kimmel opened the Oscars 2024 by calling out the Academy for snubbing Gerwig and Margot Robbie for their work on Barbie, which drew applause from the audience. However, Kimmel quickly remarked that it was the same audience that did not vote for them.

During the night, Robert Downey Jr won his first Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer, while John Cena appeared “naked” on stage to present the award for Best Costume Design
