Kensington Palace has released the first official photograph of the Duchess of Cambridge since she underwent abdominal surgery in January. The image, which was taken by Prince William at Windsor, shows the Duchess with her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Duchess is expected to remain out of public duties until the Easter holidays, but has expressed her gratitude for the public’s “continued support” in a Mother’s Day message.
The Palace has been reticent about the Duchess’s medical condition, which has stirred up speculation on social media, but has confirmed that it is not cancer-related. During the Duchess’s thirteen-night stay at the London Clinic near Regent’s Park, Prince William visited her often and she was also visited by the King before he himself received treatment there. Kensington Palace has stated that it will only provide updates on the Duchess’s recovery when there is significant new information to share, but added that the Duchess wanted to keep all her medical information private and maintain as much normality for her children as was possible.
The released image captures a tender moment as Prince George embraces his mother while she sits surrounded by her other two children. The Kensington Palace statement also features Catherine’s message to her supporters, in which she thanks them for their kind wishes and sends happy mother’s day greetings. Her three children join millions around the world in expressing their gratitude to the many mothers who are taking care of them in many different ways despite the challenges that the Covid-19 pandemic has posed to family life everywhere.
All in all, this image and message will continue to give the public a glimpse of the closeness and camaraderie of this much loved royal family and the gratitude that all mothers feel towards those who support and care for them
