Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ Tour stop in Singapore is expected to bring in over $200 million to the country’s GDP. As part of an exclusive deal made last February, the popstar has been performing six shows at Singapore’s National Stadium from March 2nd to 9th, making it the only Southeast Asian stop on the tour. Bloomberg reported that Swift’s performance in Singapore will contribute 0.2 percentage points to the country’s economy. Hotel bookings have risen 10% since the concert’s announcement, and flights to Singapore between March 1st to 9th increased by 186%.
The exclusive arrangement has received mixed responses from neighboring countries. Thailand’s prime minister praised the deal as “astute,” while a lawmaker from the Philippines criticized it as not being what “good neighbors do.” The Singaporean Prime Minister responded by calling the arrangement “not unfriendly” and a “successful arrangement.” He added that if making a deal benefits both countries, he does not see a reason not to do it.
Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour became the first to gross over $1 billion, crossing the finish line in December 2023. Having beaten out previous record holder Elton John, Swift’s tour grossed more than his $939 million ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour.
