NewJeans win ‘Group of the Year’ at 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards: “This is something we really don’t take for granted”

NewJeans, a popular K-pop band, recently attended the Billboard Women in Music Awards, where they were awarded the “Group of the Year” title. The ceremony took place on March 6th at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, and this recognition made them the first K-pop group to win this award in its history.

In her acceptance speech, Hanni, an Australian-Vietnamese band member, expressed how starstruck she was to be in the same room with artists they all admired and looked up to. She thanked all the artists who were there that evening, stating that without their music, they would not have been able to grow up so inspired. She also thanked Billboard for the recognition, adding that being part of the music industry today was something they did not take for granted.

Another band member, Danielle, also shared her gratitude for the past year and how blessed they have been to have had many new and exciting experiences. She went on to say that they were so grateful to be in a room with so many amazing artists that they look up to, and they would continue to learn from their mistakes, grow as a group, and keep pushing forward.

The members of NewJeans also performed on stage, giving a mash-up of two of their hit songs, “Super Shy” and “ETA” from their 2023 mini-album “Get Up.” Alongside NewJeans, other artists who performed and were recognized that evening were Charli XCX, Ice Spice, Victoria Monét, Tems, and more.

During a brief interview at the red carpet, Danielle shared that NewJeans are preparing and practicing hard for their upcoming tour.
