Australian musician Nick Cave has announced the release of his new album, Wild God, with his band The Bad Seeds. The album contains 10 tracks, and is set to be released on August 30, 2024. The album is said to include themes of convention and experimentation, with left-turns that help create emotive narratives.
Cave shared his excitement about the album by saying, “I hope the album has the effect on listeners that it’s had on me. It bursts out of the speaker, and I get swept up with it. It’s a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious.” He added, “Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy,” and “There’s no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.”
The lead single from the album is the title track, “Wild God,” which has already been released. The album was produced by Cave and Warren Ellis, and mixed by David Fridmann. It also includes performances by Colin Greenwood on bass, and Luis Almau on nylon string guitar and acoustic guitar.
Pre-orders for Wild God are currently available online, and the album artwork and tracklist have been released. The writing process for Wild God started on New Year’s Day in 2023, with sessions at Miraval in Provence and Soundtree in London.
Cave’s most recent album with The Bad Seeds was Ghosteen, which was released in 2019. Prior to the announcement of Wild God, Cave launched a mysterious countdown clock on March 5, but did not reveal what would happen when the clock expired.
