A 33-year-old woman, Jaskirat Kaur (also known as Jasmine Kang), has been charged with the murder of her 10-year-old daughter, Shay Kang. West Midlands Police found Shay with injuries on Monday afternoon at an end-of-terrace house in Robin Close, Rowley Regis, before she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Kaur will appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Following the discovery of the tragedy, tributes have been left at the scene, including toys and cards. A message on a card read, “Shay you will be forever missed and always in our thoughts.” Shay attended Brickhouse Primary School where staff have remembered her as a bright and fun-loving child. The school expressed its condolences in light of her passing.
In memory of Shay, a balloon release was held on Tuesday, and a fundraiser was set up to help cover funeral expenses. Organisers behind the fundraiser, who belong to the Brickhouse community, said they hope that people in the area will come together to support one another in the aftermath of Shay’s death. A cordon remains in place at the house where Shay was found, and police continue to investigate the tragic case.
Polygon Road in Rowley Regis, where Robin Close is located, has been closed while investigations take place. Det Insp Dan Jarratt stated that thoughts continued to remain with Shay’s family and friends, and asked that they be given privacy while further enquiries are made.
