Actress Michelle Yeoh has expressed her dismay over the cancellation of her Netflix show, The Brothers Sun, after just one season. The actor, who played the estranged mother of a Taiwanese mobster, wrote on Instagram: “Heartbroken… and finding it so hard to understand why…however, I am so very proud of My Brothers Sun family and what we presented to the world. Heads held high.” The crime drama, which was produced by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, landed on the streaming platform on January 4 this year.
The Brothers Sun followed the story of Justin Chien’s character Charles Sun, who travels from Taiwan to Los Angeles to protect his family after his father is assassinated. The eight-episode series was set in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California. After the announcement of the show’s cancellation, Chien also thanked fans for their support, stating: “It fills me with so much joy knowing that the show resonated with so many people. Your love made all of our collective work, sacrifices, and heartache worth it.”
Michelle Yeoh won an Oscar for Best Actress last year for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once. The actor, who was born in Malaysia, has become renowned for her roles in hit movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) and Crazy Rich Asians (2018). More recently, Yeoh also appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).
News of the show’s cancellation came as a blow to fans of the series, many of whom took to social media to express their disappointment.
