A new digital platform called wav.world has launched with an aim to promote the art of DJ mixing. The platform, which went live on March 4th, will strive to overcome current issues present within the creative industry. According to the creators of wav.world, its mission is to introduce significance to DJ mixes through a series of curated mixes and giving music “the value it deserves”.
The central ethos of wav.world is that music mixing represents a unique form of musical expression. With this principle in mind, the platform intends to provide artists with the resources and time to create whatever mix they desire. This will be supported by a digital zine featuring a long-form interview, text, video, and other crucial information about the artist.
Starting as a membership service, wav.world will offer exclusive access to its members, including editorial content, discounts, and tracklist support. The platform will commission specialist professionals within music journalism, visual, and graphic arts to offer a well-rounded online experience. For the first six months, the platform will be free to use to get an unrestricted user base up and running.
Founded by “a selection of contributors from within the creative sphere,” wav.world has a unique payment system in place to help out up and coming DJs. Subscription fees will go towards paying for DJ mixes, and the revenue-sharing platform Aslice, set up by DVS1, will compensate producers whose music provides the backdrop to these collections.
Aslice is a new service that aims to balance the financial disparities between DJs and producers. The service works by enabling DJs to pay a percentage of earnings towards artists included in the tracklist. For now, however, wav.world subscriptions should provide the necessary financial support while developing the platform’s audience
