Gut Level, a queer and creative community in Sheffield, has overcome several setbacks over the past four years and has successfully raised £10,000 to finalize the renovations for their new venue. The venue is scheduled to open its doors on March 22nd and is committed to offering events and workshops to marginalized groups while prioritizing affordability, accessibility, and inclusivity. Gut Level has also pledged to offer equal pay to artists, regardless of their following.
Initially opened as a nightclub in 2019, Gut Level was evicted in 2022. After finding a new home in 2023, they were able to raise £58,000 for renovations through a mix of fundraising activities, including a GoFundMe page. The venue faced multiple challenges, unknown to organizers at the start of the project, which included the layout and condition of the new building.
After the unexpected challenges, Gut Level launched another GoFundMe to raise £10,000 to cover final costs. The community took to Instagram to share the updates on the project and to appeal for support to help with funding the final costs. At the time of writing, the organizers had achieved their goal of raising £10,000, with the support of the community.
The fundraising organizers expressed their gratitude for the support they received and thanked everyone for their warmth, love, and solidarity. Gut Level aims to create a communal space that fosters social and creative opportunities while breaking down barriers to marginalized groups in the Sheffield community
