The CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, Johan Pilestedt, recently addressed comparisons between Helldivers 2 and Halo. While both games are sci-fi military titles that involve liberating planets, Pilestedt dismissed any comparisons between the two. Over the weekend, a fan compared both franchises and stated that Helldivers 2 was better than Halo. Pilestedt responded to the fan, stating that there should be more compassion and union in the gaming community.
Despite Pilestedt’s plea for more sportsmanship, it seems there will always be some rivalry between the two franchises. In other news, an Illinois police department apologised for a recruitment poster that took inspiration from Call of Duty. The poster was criticised for its violent and hyper-militaristic tone, which seems at odds with the police department’s efforts to build trust with the community.
While the gaming industry continues to be competitive, with companies fighting for exclusivity and users, it’s important to remember the need for more sportsmanship. As Pilestedt stated, “We need more compassion and union in the world, and less rivalry.” It’s important to focus on the enjoyment and passion that comes with gaming, rather than pitting players and franchises against each other
