The cancellation of Netflix crime drama The Brothers Sun has been confirmed just two months after the release of its first and only season. The drama, set in Southern California’s San Gabriel Valley, chronicled the story of Taiwanese mobster Charles Sun whose father was assassinated in Taipei. He travelled to Los Angeles to protect his estranged mother portrayed by Michelle Yeoh and his younger brother. The show was created and executive produced by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, and all episodes were released on January 4th.
A tribute was paid from Justin Chien who played Charles Sun in the series, thanking the fans and followers for their unwavering support of the show by commenting on his Instagram: “To all the fans of The Brothers Sun, Thank you for riding with us on this labor of love. It will take some time to digest this news, but I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support for the show. Thank you for every post, tweet, edit, interaction, etc. It fills me with so much joy knowing that the show resonated with so many people. Your love made all of our collective work, sacrifices, and heartache, worth it”. He continued by thanking everyone for their love, and promised to give his all in his next project.
Elsewhere, actress Jodie Foster recently named one of Yeoh’s films Everything Everywhere All At Once as a movie that everyone must watch at least once. The Golden-Globe winning actress also mentioned another film, Team America: World Police.
The cancellation of Netflix’s The Brothers Sun is a complete disappointment to fans of the crime series who were hoping for a renewal. However, the online streaming platform seems to be cutting some series even after only one season lately, in contrast to renewing them for multiple seasons.
