During tonight’s BRIT Awards, the Post Office scandal unexpectedly made another impact, as sub-postmaster Jo Hamilton took to the O2 stage with Monica Dolan, who portrayed her in the ITV drama Mr. Bates vs. The Post Office. The pair presented the award for Song of the Year. Hamilton spoke about how grateful she was for the public’s support since the Post Office scandal became public and went on to say that the government “is not paying the postmasters,’ despite their claims.

Raye took home the award for Song of the Year with her hit song ‘Escapism’, featuring 070 Shake. Raye had the most nominations going into the awards show with seven total nominations. The song is a track from the album My 21st Century Blues, which is also nominated for Album of the Year.

A few viewers were surprised that Hamilton and Dolan were presenting at the BRIT Awards. One viewer tweeted, ‘Is the Brits really the right place to be addressing the Post Office scandal?’ despite the unexpected appearance, the show went off without any issues.

The BRIT Awards were hosted by a trio of presenters – Maya Jama, Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp. Dua Lipa opened the show with a performance of her new single ‘Training Season’, and there were also performances from Tate McRae, Jungle, Rema, Becky Hill and Chase & Status, and Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding. Kylie Minogue received this year’s BRITs Global Icon Award and is set to close the show with her own live performance
