Paramore has released a new music video for their song ‘Thick Skull’, which was directed by Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates. The video is a continuation of the storyline from their previous music video, ‘This Is Why’. In the video, the lead singer is being transported in the back of a van, which ends in disaster. ‘Thick Skull’ is the final track from the band’s sixth album, ‘This Is Why’.
In addition to the music video, the band’s frontwoman, Hayley Williams, wrote a statement about the band’s future, which may have been hinted at in the video. Williams confesses that she has grown up and no longer questions her ability to lead the band with integrity, saying that Paramore has been the vehicle for her and her friends’ toughest lessons. Williams also reveals that the band is starting from point zero and finding new ways, but reassures fans that Paramore is still grateful to those who have needed their music.
Paramore recently became “freshly independent” after finishing their deal with Atlantic, and they refused to accept their Tennessee State Honour in solidarity with Allison Russell. Russell was denied the honour by the House Republican Caucus Chair of Tennessee, Jeremy Faison, who gave no reason for his decision. Both Paramore and Russell won Grammys earlier this month. The band released a statement to The Tennessean, in which Williams called the “blatant racism” of their state leadership “embarrassing and cruel”, and encouraged young people to vote with equality in mind.
Despite the band starting from “point zero”, Paramore’s future is still bright, and their new music video proves that they are as dynamic and creative as ever. Their sixth album, ‘This Is Why’, showcases a new warmth in their music, and fans can’t wait to see what the future holds for the band
