Alfie Whiteman, the goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, has made his debut on NTS Radio. Whiteman has been with the Tottenham Academy since 2015. The musician took to Instagram to share the momentous event, writing in his story, “I’m live on NTS until 8PM – tune in,” on Monday, February 26. The mix, entitled “Sweet Tooth W/ Alfie”, is a blend of various genres, from folk to soul, psychedelic rock, and jazz. The playlist includes artists such as the Cocteau Twins, Elliot Smith, and other chart-toppers.
Whiteman spoke about his debut mix with Mixmag and shed some light on his background. “Before this, I was just making mixes and playlists on my laptop and sharing them with friends,” he said. The musician has always had an affinity for discovering and listening to new music. Whiteman added, “I’ve always had a deep interest in listening to and discovering new music, so I was grateful for this opportunity.”
The appearance on the NTS show is a first for the goalkeeper, and it is unclear if it is part of a long-term residency on the radio station. Whiteman has been sharing his film, music, and photographic tastes on his Instagram account for the previous five years. In an interview on the Spurs website, Whiteman discussed which musicians he would like to witness in concert. Radiohead topped his list, closely followed by Al Green.
