Hayden Christensen was surprised about his casting as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, as he had thought Leonardo DiCaprio would be a better fit for the role. In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Christensen spoke about Lucas’s casting process. DiCaprio was one of the several stars Lucas met with, leading Christensen to believe that he would not get the part.
Christensen added that throughout the auditioning process, he had convinced himself that he would not get the role, which helped him prepare for other possibilities. He didn’t expect to be cast as Anakin, which made his selection a pleasant surprise.
Christensen revisited his role as Anakin Skywalker in Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka TV series. He also talked about the negative reception the prequel movies received from fans, especially his character. But he said he wasn’t surprised by the negative reviews, as he enjoyed Episode I when it came out. His friends were disappointed because the character started as a young kid, but Christensen didn’t understand the disconnect between the movie that he saw and the negative reviews.
The Ahsoka series received a three-star review, with praise for its charm and electricity. Although it is not the stripped-back sweep of The Mandalorian or the multiplex ambition of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it still has its own charm.
