Twenty One Pilots announce new album ‘Clancy’ and share hip hop-inspired single ‘Overcompensate’

Alternative rock band, Twenty One Pilots, have announced the upcoming release of their sixth album, Clancy and have shared its lead single, called ‘Overcompensate’. Fueled By Ramen will release Clancy on May 17th in the wake of their 2021 album Scaled and Icy. The band gave clues about the new release with teasers of red tape covering all the eyes on artwork in previous albums on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. Some fans received cryptic messages in the post with letters from the Sacred Municipality of Dema.

As highlighted by Kerrang!, the clues build on the lore explored in earlier works, Trench, released in 2018, and Blurryface from 2015. Last week, rumors were confirmed when the band released a trailer hinting at a new character and location. In the trailer, narrated by the band’s lead vocalist, Tyler Joseph claims to be trapped in a cycle he cannot break. Joseph and drummer Josh Dun become escapees and land on a new island called Voldsøy, where Joseph is granted a “miraculous power,” before returning to Trench as Clancy later in the trailer.

Now, it is clear that the band is revisiting the world they explored in Trench for the upcoming release. In a new track, ‘Overcompensate,’ a voice declares, “Welcome back to Trench,” with interpolated lyrics from ‘Bandito,’ a song from Trench. The band also revealed the full tracklist of Clancy, which consists of 13 tracks, including ‘Overcompensate’ and ‘Next Semester’.

In other news, Canadian country pop singer Shania Twain recently opened up about her experience of working with Tyler Joseph. Joseph worked on ‘The Hardest Stone,’ part of Twain’s sixth studio album called ‘Queen of Me.’

Twenty One Pilots’ followers and fans will be eagerly awaiting the release of Clancy in May, to immerse themselves in the band’s latest work and narrative and find out where the journey takes them next
