Liverpool City Council and Merseyside Police have collaborated to ensure the removal of a turbulent tenant who was causing “a nightmare” in the Carlake Grove area. The Government’s Private Sector Housing team received various complaints of anti-social behaviour derived from the property, and an investigation exposed that the tenant was dealing drugs, neglecting her dogs, disturbing the peace, intimidating residents, and leaving the property in a frightful condition.
Furthermore, the local community implicated a link between the tenant and groups of organized crime. The council supported the landlord, who proceeded to serve the tenant with a Section 8 notice which signaled the start of the eviction process. This was necessary because of the unfavorable effect of the tenant’s deplorable behaviour on the neighbourhood.
Councillor Laura Robertson-Collins, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, expressed streets away, tension, and the misery that incorrigible neighbors generate in their immediate environments. “Nightmare neighbours can cause untold misery for local communities. Working with partners, we can and will take action to evict those whose behaviour is having a detrimental impact on people who live close by.”
The landlord, who requested to remain anonymous, appreciates the Council and Merseyside Police for their contribution to the successful removal of the tenant. At the hearing in Liverpool Magistrates Court, the landlord was granted rights to the property and a subsequent visit by bailiffs revealed that the tenant had caused thousands of pounds worth of damage before leaving the property
